The Kid Pix‚Ñ¢ Colouring Book is a product of Bluegum Software.
Rationale
The rationale behind this product is based on an awareness that while Kid Pix‚Ñ¢ is an extremely popular program, its usefulness is frequently limited by the fact that children, particularly, are not sufficiently skilled "artists" to produce pictures that they would value.
The Colouring Book is designed, therefore, to produce outline resources (at differing levels) so that all users of this excellent program can use their own creative abilities and produce pictures that they may find useful and rewarding. Br√∏derbund have already addressed this problem with the release of the excellent Kid Pix Companion‚Ñ¢. In addition to adding the capabilities of QuickTime movies, the Companion has a number of "Color Me Pictures". The difference between the Color Me Pictures and the Colouring Book resources is that the Color Me Pictures are set at one level, while these resources span a range of abilities.
Requirements
As the advantages of the Colouring Book rely on COLOUR, it is essential that a colour system be available, i.e., a Mac II or a Mac LC (or hopefully by the end of 1992 a colour Classic). Kid Pix requires 2 Mb of RAM with colour systems.
A colour printer (Imagewriter II with colour ribbon) preferably using Microspot's MacPalette II, or a Hewlett Packard DeskWriter C, for printed reproduction.
Commercial Resources
The resources which accompany the Colouring Book are non-copyright. A great deal of effort has gone into the production of these resources, the non-copyright aspect of them is available for purchasers of the Colouring Books ONLY.
The resources have been classified at three (3) levels which are broadly Simple, Complex, and More Complex and should suit age ranges from 5 - 7 for the Simple levels and 8 - adult for the Complex and More Complex levels. Children at ages from 8 - 12 should find no difficulty in using the Complex resources. There are several disks at each level and some pictures have sound information stored with it to indicate a method of completing the picture. The difficulty of adding sound is that the files become non-viable commercially, so it assumed that adults who need to have audio directions for colouring the resources, will add them themselves.
Freeware Resources
While Bluegum Software retains the copyright over the resources which accompany this Freeware package, the resources may be used as seen fit - all that is requested is that all of the resources stay in the one package and that they be given freely to whoever may have a use for them.
